No Excuses

True Confession.  I am a liar.

I inspire and encourage others to do what I am unwilling to do.  I mentor and lead creative youth and young adults to face their fears and release their creative projects to the world.  Meanwhile, I hoard my own.  I struggle with insecurity, get endlessly stuck in strategy questions, and fail to do the one simple thing I encourage everyone else to do: their thing.

Frankly, I am tired.  It is exhausting trying to connect all the dots.  It is a dang myth that all the dots need to connect in the first place.  Forgive me.  Please forgive me.

I believe and I confess that as created beings we are invited into the process of creation.  God, the immortal Maker, intentionally left pieces of creation for us to finish.  He draws us into the process, co-creators of an infinite reality.  He gives us access to ALL those resources.

I have no excuse. :-(

My hope is that my confession might jar loose something inside you.  That deep may call to deep.  That your spirit may dance, even right in this very minute, with The Spirit.  Dance with me.  As we come out of the dark regions to celebrate what we find there.

We do not go alone!  We have some great company.  As the prophet Isaiah, no stranger to darkness, reminds, “We look for light, but all is darkness, for brightness but walk in deep shadows” (Isa. 59.9, NIV).  *The Hebrew word for brightness is used only here, negohah, The root is negahh (brilliant splendor) — a word used almost exclusively as an attempt to physically describe God.*

Where we are going if full of “deep shadows.”  But take heart, many incredible people have journeyed through that same valley.  Though the road is dark, what we are searching for is worth the journey.  Don’t give up.  Some in the search for brilliance have actually found it.

We look for brilliance, but walk in deep shadows” (Isa.59.9)
