Rebirthing Your Way Through It

That we were all birthed once is an undisputed fact.  We all had to come from somewhere.  We happen, in this case, to know where.  We came from a woman’s body (at least for now that is the only way in).  Every last one of us entered this earth through the only portal known to humankind: the womb.

And perhaps we can all agree on one other fact: we all leave this place someday.  We pass on.  We enter out.  We exit.  The time in-between these two things is the challenge.  The years in between define who we are.  They reveal the mysteries going on around and inside us.

Our first birth may be a metaphor.  It may reveal a sort of template for growth, transition, and the way into a new life.  Our first brith is anything but easy.  It is full of trauma.  The risks are real.  Death is a real option for all involved. The goal, quite literally, it to get “through” it.

And even if we are one of the lucky ones to get through, there are endless complications that can happen after birth (sometimes caused during it).  All this to say, our entry into the world is no walk in the park.  Why would we expect our transitions in life to be easy?

If only rebirth were crawling back into our mother’s womb, it would be so easy ;-).  We could go back to what we know.  Or knew.  But it is not easy.  We are not allowed back in.  We can not go back.  Backward. We must go.  Forward.  Into the future.  Into the unknown.  Only there do we find our next portal.

But remember the womb, with its incredible centrical force.  The safety of that dark place.  The sounds.  The movements.  Even those that were malnourished may not have realized it yet in the womb.  The security of the womb superseded most other factors, perhaps even the amount of nutrition.

For most, birth was inevitable!

The second we are born we became incredibly fragile, susceptible, and needy.  We go from having everything we need automated to getting nothing we need that way.  After birth we would have to fight for everything, to cry and scream our way to each feeding.

Visit an ICU for babies (NICU) and you will see this vividly.   Babies who were just hours before in the inner world of harmony within the womb are now at wits end trying to survive the brutal world they were born into.  They desperately want to go back in the womb.

But that is not the way of rebirth.  Rebirth starts with death, not birth.  We have to let go of what we have first.  Before we know what we are heading into.  That is the whole point of birth.  No one knows what is coming.  We just know it is life we are thrust into.

And somehow, life will take care of itself.

Life draws us out of the womb and into the great adventure.  Though we grow up with a mix of truths and lies, good and bad, light and dark, we find our way.  We are held accountable, eventually, to do our part.  Rebirth becomes the power to overcome the trauma of those early years.

We convert harsh memories and thinking patterns caused by trauma, and even our flawed instincts for survival, to break though (Christ have mercy).  This work can be overwhelming.  We may even unlock and open doors we may never again shut.  But the truth is worth it! Open it up.
