The Cadence of Purpose
What is your bridge? What is the thing you have to cross to get where you want to go? We all have bridges. Because we all come to impasses. Places we can not move forward. Because the road ends. The paved road we know stops. We must find a way across.
And we all have a destination in mind. We all have “a dream” to aspire to. A vision of life we would love to see happen. In our lives. In our lifetime. Something that requires movement on our part. A journey. A hero’s journey, with a vision worthy of such a journey.
A haunting vision. Haunting mostly because we are not sure we have what it takes to get there. Yet the vision is. It is in there. We did not put it there. It is clear. Attempts to change it do not work. Trying to make it more reasonable reduce its ability to inspire us.
A vision is wild and free. Beyond our abilities. Mostly beyond our sightline. We can imagine it. We can “see” it in that realm. But we can not actually see it. That’s why there is no vision without imagination. Vision is a reaction and direct response to the severity of what is.
Our frustration with was is not. Verbalizing such frustrations is key to spinning out our vision. It may sound similar to complaining but it is not. It’s purpose is to stir ideas. To challenge norms that need to be challenged. To articulate our shared longings for a better world.
If we do not do this, visions remain dormant. People stay powerless. We resort to unhealthy means only to maintain a seemingly futile existence, where nothing can or will ever change. That sort of static universe is toxic. Deadly. Poison to the soul.
Things can change. Shut doors do open. Things we thought impossible can happen. The universe is malleable. Open. Not shut. Or locked. Or exclusionary. Providence is not a closed system of cause and effect. Adventure has a “Welcome” sign at its entrance.
Which door will you walk through? We get to choose. What life do we believe in? Which vision of life brings more life? Which one fuels our existence and elevates us to our next level? It is the light of an unpredictable life, one full of mystery and adventure, that draws us in.
Life will find a way. If we let it. It will burrow its way out, or in. It will. Our “effort” is more of a realization. An understanding. We have what we need. Everything. It is all here. There is nothing we lack. The doors are open. We are invited in. Simply walk. Walk!
And as we walk the Way evolves. The path rises. We look back and see pavement. There has been a road. But only after we walk can we see it. Only when we jump in does the adventure make sense. Its logic becomes clear. Its self-fulfilling power finally palatable.
For in the path is our power. On the road is our vision. In the act we begin to see more clearly. As we walk, we uncover. Life is hidden. In the journey. In the faith of moving. In the process of trying. We become. And with every act of the Spirit, in its wind, we find hope.
And momentum. We sense a cadence of purpose. A precision to our steps. A confidence that we are going somewhere worthwhile. One after the other. Confidences compile. Layer upon layer upon layer. We find our way. We “see” the way emerge before our very eyes.
