Between Night & Day (New Day, part 2)
New requires wilderness. Darkness. Unknown. In order to get new, we have to leave the old. In order to leave old, we have to enter new. New, by very nature, must be something yet to be experienced. Something beyond, other. Some darkness we have not yet traversed.
How will we get there? Where will it lead? What will it require of us? These are the fair and persistent questions that haunt our journey. And there is no guarantee the journey will lead us somewhere “better.” But we do know, when led there by the Spirit, it will lead to something good.
We can not ultimately judge our own ideas. We can not entirely know their roots nor their future. We have only the raw materials. The ideas. The vision. The love. Stare upon them. Look at them closely. There is a beauty there, a miracle, the very mark of incarnation.
Love makes a way for itself. If finds a way. You are part of that way. Think of it. You are the way that love gets in. The embodiment of the idea. An act of compassion. A seed planted. Even the place where it will plant. And potentially sprout. It could have gone anywhere. But it didn’t. It choose to come through you. Why?
You were willing to recieve. To behold the sacred. To allow a transcendent idea that had not been given voice without you. It is coming. It will come. But it needs spoken. Visualized. Experienced. And you have been called. Chosen. To bring it into existence. You!
It is not just the idea. Or the words. Or phrases. But the power contained within those words. Real power. Creative power. The same power, we believe, behind the universe itself. Not just the matter or stuff of creation, but the breath and life that creates real relationships within it.
And that is real power. Creative power. Re-creative power. Never-ending power. Power that brings things back alive. That makes everything new. That renews hearts. Opens minds. Liberates the binded. Heals the broken. Transforms the enslaved. Brings life!
We don’t wield the power. We can’t even direct it. We don’t own it. It owns us. It has its own agenda. It is free to do what it wants. And it may use us as it wants also. If we insist on certain outcomes, we disqualify ourselves from its use. The power alone decides.
For what is born in us is not ultimately of human descent. And its purpose is beyond our human will. We know only that it is for good. And for light. And sometimes first light. Before the light is seen. Like the morning star that appears before the sun, even while it is still dark.
What is birthed can not be hidden for long. Soon, against the dark morning sky, it will start to stand out.
Like the morning star, we lead from the darkness to the light. We connect night and day. We can not stay in the darkness. From our hovering there must eventually come utterances of creation. We see. We say. We bring to life. In the process, we are given the eyes to see what is already here. Our next masterpiece!
