Your Yes!

There is one yoke.  Only one.  The human heart can only have one thing in the center.  On the throne.  At the head.  One.  Of course, we have many loves, [many callings, many responsibilities, many ways we serve others even] but only one can reign supreme.

We must, as conscientious people, then, examine our primary love over and over again (a perfect for theme for Lent).

We must root out both what is most powerfully meaningful to us AND what is most deeply significant to our identity.  The two may seem very different, and even unreconcilable at times, they are not.  In fact, our One thing is exactly where these two things intersect.  Let me explain.

We all share two defining marks: our Identity (who we are), and our Significance (what we do).  Our being.  Our calling.  Both necessarily are part of who we are.  Somewhere in that mysterious intersection between our identity and our significance is the ultimate “yes” we are looking for.

It will not look like what we imagine.  Not at first.  It may not even feel like what we imagined.  But it is real.  Very real!  And our “yes” can be known.  And will if we can find it.  We have to drill.  And keep drilling.  And then drill some more. But it can be found.  It is not mercilessly totally hidden from us.

It is discoverable. 

*Open your eyes.  It is here.  Look closer. Closer. We thought it was out there somewhere.  Out t - h - e - r - e.  But it was not.  It was right h - e - r - e.  Right inside us.  Deeply part of us.  Part of who we are.  Integral.  Woven into our very fabric from birth.  Even before.

Our “yes” was born before the world began.  And it has been sustained in our hearts.  Deep.  Aroused in longings for and from eternity.  And it will find a way into creation.  It will be reconciled.  Expressed.  Yielded.  Externalized.  Incarnated.  Experienced.  Birthed.

It will…If we let it.

Once it takes root, the growth is a bi-product of the right elements coming to the seed - Oxygen.  Light.  Water.  Nutrients.  Light and air are free.  In fact, all the things needed for growth are free.  That is the ultimate gift of God.  Everything we need is already here! All the right resources for growth.

Let in those free natural resources.  Let them saturate Your gifts.  Let them do their job.  Let them nourish and enrich, grow and stabilize.  We do not need to go out looking for oxygen.  It is freely given by the air.  It is right here.  Trust it.  Trust that You have all that you need.

*And then get beyond yourself.  Quit thinking about your take on this.  Start really focusing on the just thing you are doing.  Focus on the change that you want to see happen.  Think about how people’s lives can be different forever because of what you want to do.

That is what matters.

Of course, your internal process matters.  But remember: why you started doing this in the first place?  Where did your vision come from?  There is something important going on here.  There is something deeply moving to the heart of God that You see, hear, feel.  Listen to that instinct!

Visions are usually born from adversity and a deep persistance to hope anyway.

And simply…own the fact that you want it.  You will not always know or be aware of why or all the layers behind or around it.  But you can know what you want.  You can know that for some reason this good thing, and a desire to bring it into existence, is in your heart.  That is enough for now!

And as you focus on the thing, on your yes, all others fade.  Seeing this good thing come into existence becomes your highest joy and privilege.  Do you want it?  Do you really want it?  Because it is yours.  It is only yours.  You alone can ask for it.

To you alone it can be granted! Go for it.
